What Every Tool Box Should Have

by the Professional Power Tool Guide Crew

It’s back to school time again. Buses are running, apples are being shined up and college kids all over the country are leaving home for the first time. If your child is leaving the nest for the first time, or even for the fifth time, you’ll want to make sure that they have everything they’ll need to be OK.

Most students’ minds will drift to things like laptop computers, cell phones and printers, but there are some much more basic tools that they’ll need to get by as well. Whether they will be living in a dorm or off campus in an apartment, every young man and woman should have a tool box, and there is a pretty simple list of what every tool box should have.

Just as every student’s pencil box should include a ruler, every tool box should have at least one good measuring tape. Without one, there is no way to “measure twice and cut once”. Regardless of how little they think their tool box will get used at school, the tape measure is sure to get a lot of play, as they go about rearranging their dorm room and figuring out whether they can fit that cool lamp in the corner. A tape measure tops the list of what every tool box should have.

Another basic tool that is a must have, is a hammer. Whether they are hanging pictures or assembling a small bookshelf, a hammer is one of those things that it is always handy to have around.

Also high on the list of what every tool box should have is a good set of screwdrivers. Screws come in a wide variety of sizes in both “Slotted” and “Phillip’s Head”, so should your screwdrivers! You never can tell when something is going to need tightening, so this is one toolset that no one should be without.

What every tool box should have is a small assortment of commonly used items. For college students, just leaving home, there are many good pre-made options available. Though the quality of the tools may not be top notch, they usually have enough of an assortment to get them through most any small project or need that would arise. Regardless of whether you are looking to start small or outfit them for life, a good tool set is an important tool for success!
