Gas Powered Water Pumps

by the Professional Power Tool Guide Crew

It doesn’t matter what you’re looking at, gas and electric powered models always seem to be going at each other. There’s always a debate between which is better in general, but most of the time it’s dubbed a tie and left to a matter of personal opinion. Well, when it comes to electric and gas powered water pumps, a clear cut winner may be defined. To understand the comparison between the two, you have to understand each one individually. Here, we’ll take a look at both pumping options and determine which one would probably be best for your house.

Gas Powered Water Pump

Gas powered water pumps use a gas driven motor to pump water. This allows them to produce more power than electric pumps because gas can create more horsepower than electricity. A gas pump is thus the ideal solution when you have to have your unit located a long distance away because it can drive the water faster and with more force. However, gas water pumps must be used in an open area and cannot be put indoors. They cannot be enclosed in any way because there is a significant risk of carbon monoxide poisoning if the unit is kept in confinement for too long. You must have good ventilation for the pump at all times to ensure your own safety.

Unlike gas powered water pumps, electric pumps rely on an electrical outlet as their source of power. The main downfall to this is that water and electricity don’t go well together. Thus there’s a risk of shock whenever you use an electric pump. Whether shock is more severe than carbon monoxide poisoning is debatable, but both of them can be avoided if you take the right precautions. Electric pumps can be placed inside a home as they have to be located near a wall outlet. The pump must be placed in the lowest part of the room in case of a water leak, and it is a good idea to have a drain nearby for such reasons.

Overall, gas powered water pumps have proven to be more efficient and effective than electric ones. That said, the limit on the location that a gas pump can be in could cause people to lean towards the electric option. Whichever you choose, you must be sure to take all safety measures necessary to ensure that you do not get seriously injured. A pump may seem harmless in theory, but it’s an accident waiting to happen under the wrong circumstances.
